ABOUT THIS RELEASE

Rock It Science Laboratories levels up again with their 2nd release of 2012: Roy Davis Jr & Bear Who?’s Automatic Principles. All mixes play off of Bear’s inventive B-Boy style hip house vocals, with Roy leading the way with two fantastic takes. His “Autoelectrik Speaker Killa Mix” goes straight for the big floors with huge bottom-heavy electro synths over drums reminiscent of his release on Thomas Bangaltar’s Roule. His house mix is straight up classic Chicago house, masterfully weaving together a tapestry of samples. Leonardus cranks the filter disco goodness vibe up to 11. His Majesty Andre departs from his norm, developing a spacious sound scape with shuffled percussion and dark gritty tech house synths. DJ Gant-man busts out a slowed down juke groove clearly made for the ladies. Finally Eric Sharp takes us back to the ‘90s with a speed garage remix replete with big open hi-hats, warbling bass and energetic horn stabs.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

There is way too much to say about the legendary Roy Davis Jr. His storied career began as a member of the acid house group Phuture, touring the world. He then went on to be an A & R scout for Strictly Rhythm. Roy released “Gabriel” in 1998 which became an immediate anthem and is still played worldwide. This track is credited as the first song to coin the term “garage” which the UK Funky / Garage / Future Bass movement is derived from. Roy has too many remix credits and releases to name, but suffice to say he is a major player in dance music’s past, present, and future. Bear Who? is best known for his vocal work and writing on the 2003 EDM break-out anthem “Fix My Sink.” A man of many aliases and avatars, Bear is quite prolific in the studio and works with artists like Roy Davis Jr, Basement Jaxx, Laidback Luke, Junior Sanchez and Todd Terry.

This bootleg remix by our DC fam Nacey is epic. Not epic in the over-used “Epic, bro!” sense but epic in the midieval way. Think Braveheart but Raveheart instead.

Rock It Science Laboratories will produce a standout party commemorating 7 years of San Francisco shows and 2 years of releasing music on Friday, April 20th 2012 in the Public Works Oddjob Loft. With a focus on delivering top tier talent showcased on proper sound systems, Rock It Science has long been considered one of the premier electronic music events in San Francisco. In 2010, Rock It Science took a major step forward by launching a music label. Now in their 14th release, Rock It Science tracks have been featured on XLR8R, Discobelle, Beatport, Generation Bass, Big Up Magazine, 5 Magazine, Stompy, and Turntable Lab while consistently receiving praise from internationally renowned music selectors. Their first offering “Wiggle Room” composed by the label heads themselves was licensed by CBS and appeared on the hit show CSI: Miami.

Long time friends Sick Boy and Eric Sharp have just released their first collaboration track “Boom Diggy” on the world-famous Top Billin label as part of the “World Gone Club Volume 4″ compilation. The gentlemen met two years ago during Amsterdam Dance Event, and quickly remixed each other (you may remember Sick Boy’s banging mix of Thunder Cats that we released.) Since then they have worked on tracks wherever possible: in hotel rooms, backstage at shows and via Skype. Keep your eyes open for their next release together “Sharp As A Knife” coming out in April on Markus Lange’s label Platten Pussy.

“Boom Diggy” is a clear mix of two distinct styles, bringing together Sharp’s beat trickery and house sensibilities with Sick Boy’s driving synths and in your face percussion. Add a good dose of bass, a swinging catchy melody, and a groove that pulls you in and you’ve got a big room banger for the ages. This track is available now exclusively via Top Billin.
